11-11-11 National Corduroy Day has arrived!

Back in late August at a Rebels meeting, Nifty of Nifty Quilts gave us some very interesting vintage corduroy and set us the challenge of making something for National Corduroy Day.  This is what I got,

I remember when I was a kid and loved wide waled corduroy pants in the winter.  This fabric, however, was pronounced by one Rebel as possibly the all time winner of the ugliest fabric award.  We all accepted the challenge anyway.

I auditioned several fabrics from my stash, including teal, but ended up hitting garage sales for corduroy pants in blue and a grey/green.  I also found a heavy work shirt in red.  I found a wonderful purple corduroy shirt at the thrift store, but I liked it so much I wear it all the time.  The rest, I decided, would become one with the "ugly" fabric and make a pillow top and back.  I also added some gold batik from my stash.

Front
It was interesting working with the corduroy.  It likes to be sewn together.  I think there might be a corduroy quilt in my future, but it will have some purple.  I do love purple corduroy.
For 30+ more wonderful corduroy projects, head on over to Nifty Quilts for links.
Enjoy the day.

I really like that patterned corduroy. The fabrics you've teamed it up with really make it sing! How wonderful that in your search for corduroy you found a new favourite shirt, that's really celebrating Corduroy Day in style!

Your pillow looks great on both sides. So great, that I can't tell which is meant to be front or back! I love your original mix of colors and textures. Glad you could play along!

I have a couple of corduroy shirts that I absolutely love to wear. I always found corduroy pants problematic ;- )

This would have been a fun challenge to participate in. You did great!

The gold and red fabric are really happy with the printed corduroy. Very balanced!

Yes, corduroy is sew-friendly. We made corduroy skirts in 7th grade home ec, and they all turned out okay. I hope to see your finished quilt with your purple accents......velvet would be nice, too.

I agree with Nifty - both sides of this pillow are wonderful! You found some great colors to go with that challenge fabric. And total score on the purple cord shirt! I want one too! Happy 11-11-11!

I think you met the challenge admirably--your pillow turned out great. I also really liked your Jacob's Ladder quilt. You have an interesting choice of fabrics that seems to emphasize the squares.
